Understanding Aortic Stenosis and Treatment Options

Aortic stenosis is a condition characterized by the narrowing of the aortic valve, impeding blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body. Treatment options include:

• Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement (SAVR): A traditional open-heart surgery to replace the narrowed valve.

• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR): A minimally invasive procedure delivering a new valve via catheter, often through the femoral artery.

While the Myval offers a more affordable option, the overall cost of TAVI procedures remains significant, limiting accessibility for many Nigerians.
