E36 Heavy duty collapsible solid steering shaft replacement by Detroit Drifting Co.

This unit is a direct replacement for the factory 92-98 BMW 3 series steering shaft section that resides in the engine bay. The OEM shaft is made from lightweight aluminum, but is plagued by the all too common failure of the rubber flex joint between the shaft and steering rack. This failure is very common with heavy duty uses, such as drifting or road racing, where excessive load coupled with old age can lead to vague steering feel or even complete failure.

Our heavy duty collapsible solid steering shaft stands above the competition with its splined construction. Competitors shafts are made with a DD slip interface, or no slip at all. In our experience with road race BMWs, The DD style interface can develop rotational play with hard use. With our splined design, a tighter tolerance can be held and maintained over a longer term compared to DD construction.
