Ssekikubo joins deputy speaker race

The ruling NRM party has closed the window for expression of interest by members for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th Parliament.
It’s now confirmed that incumbent Speaker Rebecca Kadaga will face her deputy Jacob Oulanyah who seeks to dethrone her.
But it’s a crowded race for Deputy Speaker. Six candidates are eyeing the seat on the NRM ticket while three others are independent, making it nine contenders. But the six NRM members will know their fate after 2nd May when the ruling party’s top organ, the Central Executive Committee vets them. Thereafter, on 5th May, the NRM parliamentary caucus will vote the candidates for the final race.
Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Ssekikubo overcame the first hurdle after NRM cleared him to vie for the position of Deputy Speaker.
