On June 22, 2025, a devastating suicide bombing occurred at the Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in the Dweila district of Damascus, Syria. During the Sunday Divine Liturgy, a masked assailant entered the church, opened fire on the congregation of approximately 350 worshippers, and then detonated an explosive vest near the entrance. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 25 individuals, including children, and injured over 60 others.
