VLOG 72: Jade Cove (Big Sur, CA)

Jade Cove is an amazing hidden gem located at the southern end of Big Sur along the Highway 1 coastline. A 30 mile drive north of San Simeon (or a 60 mile drive south of Carmel) leads to this strikingly remote hidden beach.

Jade Cove received its name from the large amount of Monterey jade that was once found here. Currently hunting for jade is strictly prohibited above the mean high tide level, and you should expect to see serpentine and not jade (though they do look similar, especially when wet).

The trail to reach this cove is not for the faint of heart...with an abundance of poison oak, ticks along the path, and the steep scramble with rope ladder required to reach the rocky shore, this hike is less than a mile and a half round trip, but it requires an adventurous spirit.
