A student biotech start-up that was fostered under the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) scheme of the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has bagged an investment of $10 million from the UAE-based TCN International Commerce LLC, for its project titled ‘Algae-Seaweed Technology’, under the brand B-lite Cookies.
Government to assign alphanumeric hash to track Whatsapp messages

The government of India is planning to assign Whatsapp an alphanumeric hash for every message to track the messages. The hash will travel with the message and if any wrong activity happens, the message can be tracked down without breaking the encryption.
IIFL Launches $280 Mn Fund for Tech Startups.

IIFL has launched a INR 1,500 Cr fund to invest in the pre-initial public offering and late-stage rounds of digital businesses. The fund also has a green shoe option of around INR 500 Cr. The company has already received commitment worth INR 400 Cr ($55 Mn) within two weeks of launch and plans to announce the final close by June this year. The company will raise this capital from family offices and ultra-high net worth individuals to invest about $10 Mn to $20 Mn in about 10-12 companies

Elon Musk stunned the world with his audacious bet on Bitcoin earlier this year and now, the Tesla CEO has announced that the company will start accepting the world’s largest electronic currency (cryptocurrency) as payment for its electric cars. Musk tweeted, “you can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin". Musk also informed that Bitcoin payment will also be made available for customers outside the US. Tesla will only use internal and open-source software for the payment. Also, Bitcoinspaid to the company will not be converted to fiat currency, Musk announced.
79 projects worth Rs 8,201 crore taken up by DRDO in last three years.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation took over 79 projects worth Rs.8,201 crore in the last three years. DRDO took up projects directly pertaining to the development of new defence equipment like Cruise Missile, Anti-Ship Missile, Surface-to-Air Missile,Air-to-Air Missile, Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket, Mounted Gun System,Ammunitions, Electronic Warfare System, Radars, Torpedoes, and High Endurance Autonomous Underwater Vehicle.

India has 100 unicorns valued at $240 billion

According to a swiss brokerage, India is home to 100 unicorns across sectors which are collectively valued at over USD 240 billion. These unicorns, or startups valued at over USD 1 billion, are across industries, beyond technology and tech-enabled sectors as well, like pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods.
HUL in association with Invest India, Startup India, and AGNIi are launching the Grand Water Saving Challenge.

The Grand Water Saving Challenge, a national hackathon for Technologists, Inventors, and start-ups from the field of Water and Sanitation. Organised by Toilet Board Coalition (TBC), the Challenge aims to address the need for an efficient flush system in public toilets to ensure optimum usage of water while ensuring a clean and hygienic toilet Winners of the challenge will receive a cash prize of Rs. 5 Lakh in addition to an opportunity to install and test the invention at a Suvidha centre, developed by HUL. Applications for the same have started on 22nd March 2021 and the last date to apply is 10th May 2021.
