Catholic Bible Study, 1 Samuel 27-28: The Book of 1 Samuel.
In 1 Samuel 27 David realized that Saul would kill him if he did not make a major change. Hence, he decided to live in the Land of the Philistines, knowing that Saul would not pursue him in the territory of their enemies. Thus, he took 600 men and went to the city of Gath and their received permission from Achish to live in the countryside. In Chapter 28 we learn that the Philistines were preparing to invade and Saul was worried when he saw the size of their army. However, things went from bad to worse for Saul after he realized that the Lord would not speak to through prophets, dreams of Urim. Thus, Saul took matters into his own hands and consulted a medium/witch in the city of Endor, and action which is strictly forbidden in Deuteronomy chapter 18:9-14.
