LEAD IN:
When people visit the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, many visit Sugarloaf Mountain, others take a trip to the famous Copacabana beach.
But now an increasing number of people are also visiting the city's famous shanty towns or favelas.
Although no official figures have been published, city tourist guides claim that more and more overseas travellers are coming to visit and even to live and and work in the favelas.
