An 11-year-old boy died Tuesday after being stabbed in his Elk Grove home, and his father — former Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy Marvin Morales — died after an officer-involved shooting following a chase on southbound I-5, authorities said. The boy’s mother called 911 after witnessing the assault through home cameras. Officers found the boy critically injured and his 6-year-old sister unharmed. Morales fled before police arrived, leading law enforcement on a pursuit that ended near Highway 12 west of Lodi, where CHP used a spike strip and officers from multiple agencies fired their weapons. Morales died at a hospital in San Joaquin County. Records show he was fired and decertified in 2024 after overdosing on fentanyl while on duty in 2023. The Elk Grove Unified School District said the family was part of the district and that counseling resources are available.
