Here is my UTMB Oman story – hands down the toughest race I have endured to date.
I learned some valuable lessons during this event and I discovered how far I could push my mind and my body.
If you haven’t read my blog there is a link in the description where I explain how 40+ hours on my feet really felt, what sort of things I hallucinated... and how my body reacted to 52+ hours of zero sleep. Honestly, it was not a pretty sight.
It was nearly game over at 90K for me when I felt I had a suspected stress fracture in my left ankle/shin but I decided to run through this. Ultimately I left Muscat in wheelchair due to the above ankle issue flaring up and with mixed feelings about the race. Great meeting up with the fellow runners of this global ultra running club and after a few sleeps, x rays and MRI scans I am pleased to be an owner of the UTMB Oman medal, first edition.
Oman UTMB are opening up registrations for 2019 soon – this time there will be a variety of courses (similar to the @utmbmontblanc) with the longest route 166KM (100 miler) with 10,000 +/- which is likely to add some 12+ hours to the existing course.
