Описание к видео What I'm doing after my PhD

Yeah, you will probably have some questions about why I'm doing this...

WHY: 0:25
WHAT: 1:47
HOW: 4:46
WHEN: 8:59

A lot of you are probably going to think that I'm very naive to attempt this, and that I'm wasting years of education to do something irrelevant to my skillset. Well, naturally, I'm going to disagree!
As I said in the video, this is a leap into the unknown, not motivated by the knowledge that I have anything to leap onto, but more by the alternative being a lifetime of regret. I'm financially secure for the time being, and I can afford to take this (big) risk. In this new role I'm going to be using general skills which I've honed through my two degrees - problem solving, independent study, and project management. But more than that I'm going to make content not only about the subjects I've studied - physics, maths, and climate - but also using skills essential to research. In particular I'll be utilising programming and physics knowledge that go into building models of the climate. Also, I can finally start to draw on skills which I've developed since I started school, and I really enjoy using - writing, storytelling, and editing in particular.

I'm not going to reveal what future 'feature videos' are going to be, but I've planned out about half a year of content already. Some of this, granted, will be content that anyone with a background in science and editing could make. But I also plan to make content that only someone with a PhD in my field could make - and so I'm viewing aspects of what I'm going to go on to do as a direct continuation of my years of study, rather than a completely new venture.

I hope I didn't come across as too preachy or anything in this. I'm not completely happy with how I articulated my points at the end but it boils down to this
1. You are now my bosses. I respect you and will not abuse the trust you have placed in me.
2. I see an immense opportunity here to do good in the world, to make content that will educate others, and I intend to make the most of this opportunity
3. This is going to be my job now, and while I have to commercialise what I do in a greater way, I hope to do so in a way compatible with points 1 and 2.
