This is from a 1980 LP record. Richard Unfreid was the Senior Organist at the Garden Grove Community Church in Garden Grove, CA, which later became the Crystal Cathedral and is now known as Christ Cathedral. He was there from 1963 until 1982. Beginning in 1970, he was seen around the world on the weekly television broadcast The Hour of Power with Robert Schuller.

This recording was made in the original sanctuary, which is now known as the Arboretum. The instrument was a 1977 116-rank Fratelli Ruffatti organ. When the Crystal Cathedral was completed in 1980, this organ was removed (as had always been the plan) to become part of a much larger instrument in the cathedral known as the Hazel Wright Organ, which you can read about online. But when this organ was in the original sanctuary, I can attest to the fact that it was a magnificent instrument to hear every Sunday with much different acoustics than in the cathedral.

Richard was also Professor of Organ at Biola University in La Mirada, CA, from 1963 until 1998.

Interesting tidbits: Virgil Fox, who was a friend of Robert & Arvella Schuller's, dedicated this organ and also recorded on it in 1977. It was the last recording he ever made, entitled The Digital Fox, Volumes 1 & 2.
