The "Cotton Shire-Zambezi" project, coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), is run in partnership with the governments of Mozambique and Malawi.

Since its signing in November 2014, the project has been contributing to increasing cotton production in both African countries, with the production of quality certified seeds, and with the strengthening of institutional capacities of national partner entities (researchers, extensionists and leading producers of Malawi and Mozambique) in the adaptation and dissemination of cotton production technologies in small and medium farms.

The demonstrations of Brazilian practices are carried out in the Technology Transfer and Demonstration Unit (TTDU), set up to show, in practice, the different techniques for planting cotton, the effect of plant density and pest control, using different methods, in addition to testing the competition and adaptability of different varieties of cotton.

The project is technically executed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), in partnership with the Institute of Cotton and Oilseeds of Mozambique (IAOM) and the Department of Agricultural Research Services of Malawi (DARS). The project is funded by the Brazilian Cotton Institute (IBA), with institutional support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
