A Bad Case of Church Face

I was clearing away the tears in the church parking lot, fixing my glasses and practicing my smile. “I can’t let anyone see that I’ve been crying,” I told myself. A laugh escaped my lips next. Did I hear what I had just said?

My fear and pride keep me closed off.

Why am I trying to hide from those who should understand the most? That’s just it… the curse of the church is thinking we as believers should have it together. The enemy plants the lies slowly. Everyone but me is more advanced in their walks with Christ and somehow I’m lagging behind. The enemy whispers when I sin, go hide! Isolate. Keep it to yourself, hypocrite! But aren’t I just as much a hypocrite if I act like I’m fine when it’s not?

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
James 5:16, ESV

Let us not forget, the people of God are first a fellowship of sinners. We have all fallen short. It’s why we need Jesus. And Jesus created us for community.
