After England's dismal start to the 1986 World Cup, losing 1-0 to Portugal and drawing 0-0 with Morocco, England desperatly needed to kick start the campaign with a decent win. On the 11th June 1986 in there Group F Match against Poland at the Estadio Tecnológico, Monterrey, Lineker puts on a fantastic display by scoring a hattrick, England won the game 3-0 and qualified for the round of 16 stage.

This brought Gary Lineker's international record to 9 goals in 16 internationals.
