How to Connect Up to Four Displays To Your Computer with Plugable UD-3900

In this video I do a quick review of the Plugable UD-3900 Dual Monitor Docking Station. I was looking for a way to connect more than one monitor to my wife's computer. I tried various display adapters and docking stations but in the end I had to return all of them as they didn't live up to the promise. In the end I decided to give the Plugable Dual Monitor Docking Station a try. It has two display ports, so it helps bringing the total number of screens to four if we count the laptop display and the HDMI on-board port which all laptops come with. I was a little pessimistic when I placed the order after the past experiences with the other adapters I tested. The Plugable is not cheap, it cost me 109 Euros on Amazon. It is a robust device and comes with a plethora of extra ports. Apart from the two display ports it features a Gigabit network port, four usb 2 ports, two usb 3 ports, a headphone jack and a microphone jack. Since most new laptops come with no more than 2 or 3 usb ports, the six extra ports are really useful. But for me, the main feature was the ability to connect two extra monitors.
I plugged in the power supply for the docking station, then connected the supplied USB cable from the proprietary port to one of the USB ports on my wife's laptop. It is advisable to use a USB 3 port for this purpose to take advantage of full capabilities of the docking station.
I then plugged in the HDMI cable from the new monitor into the HDMI port on the Plugable Docking Station. And immediately the Desktop extended onto this second external monitor. Working with 3 displays is a dream, very easy to hop from one to another. I don't yet need to add a fourth screen but the option is there, I can use the DVI port with the included DVI to HDMI adapter to plug in another monitor.
This is a truly plug and play device, if you have your display settings set to Extend these Displays (Multiple Display), you are good to go.
I recommend the Plugable Dual Monitor Docking Station to anyone who needs more than one external monitor connected to their computer. There is also another version of this device which sits horizontally (UD-3900h) and has the exact same number of ports. It was 11 euros cheaper at 98 euros, but I preferred this vertical one as it saves me a little space on the desk.
