The virtue of FORTITUDE by definition is always the virtue of the one who is vulnerable and capable of being hurt in some way. After all, an angel cannot be hurt in any physical way because he does not have a body. Only human persons can be courageous. The courageous person is always fixed upon what is good and this virtue allows the person to carry out the good which is the purpose of justice. Also, Fortitude does not trust itself because it can easily fall into bravado. However, it does require confidence to achieve the good. Therefore, in order to establish the virtue of Fortitude one needs both endurance and attack. In other words, both a patience on the one hand and holy anger and confidence on the other. The three types of FORTITUDE include the fortitude of the human psyche (vital fortitude), moral fortitude and mystical fortitude. All three work together to produce the virtue of FORTITUDE in the human heart.
