I had so much fun today. I finally mastered in the wireworm technique. My home made wireworms were killing it today. Caught pike, walleye and monster whitefish today and it was nonstop action from early morning to late night. White jigging spoons are the most popular bait for catching whitefish, many people use live bait as well. Choose between salmon eggs, wigglers, maggots, and waxworms. Whitefish have small mouths, so you should use small eggs or worms when selecting live bait.
That's because whitefish are a cool-water species and need to go down deep during the summer to find colder water. During the winter, however, they'll visit various structures in the shallows to feed. “I never fish for them in more than 50 feet of water.
The lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) is a species of freshwater whitefish from North America. Lake whitefish are found throughout much of Canada and parts of the northern United States, including all of the Great Lakes.
Broad whitefish are bottom feeders. They eat snails, bivalves and other mollusks, as well as aquatic insect larvae. It was noted that in the Kuskokwim River, broad whitefish do not eat at all between fall spawning and spring the following year
