Matchbox Ford Capri (062)

Описание к видео Matchbox Ford Capri (062)

On the bench today is a Matchbox Superfast Ford Capri Mk I. Mine is No. MB54 and is from 1971. This is a very special build because it’s the first makeover out of my new hobby room and more importantly, this is the first car I ever owned. Mine was a 1973 V6 2600 cc two door, and it would lay a patch of rubber! I bought it for $500 and put a $600 stereo in it. I thought it was the best car in the world. I’m going to restore this one to look like mine did, in metallic brown. The engine will get detailed and the wheels swapped out. Should be fun for all, and a trip down memory lane for me.

Matchbox produced this series from 1971-1976 and re-released it again in 1985 as a Super GT version.

I drove my ’73 Capri from Ottawa, Ontario to Victoria, BC and back in the summer of 1981. One of my dual sport exhaust pipes blew out about 100 kilometres into the road trip. I patched it with a Coke can and some duct tape and it held. From then on I lovingly referred to my Capri as the Crapi! It made the journey, and then some. I still have the original V6 badge from the car.

The Capri is a fastback coupé built by Ford Motor Company between 1968 and 1986, designed by American Philip T. Clark, who was also involved in the design of the Ford Mustang. It used the mechanical components from the Ford Cortina Mk2 and was intended as the European equivalent of the Mustang. The Capri went on to be a highly successful car for Ford, selling nearly 1.9 million units in its lifetime.

A wide variety of engines were used in the Capri throughout its production lifespan, which included the Cologne V6 at the top of the range. While Ford marketed the car as "Ford Capri – The Car You Always Promised Yourself", the British magazine Car described the Capri as a "Cortina in drag".

FYI: I don't collect, display or sell the cars, and they’re certainly not competition entries. All Maple Leaf Matchbox Makeovers finished projects are put in gift bags and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free.

Note: Due to the use of paint stripping chemicals and power tools, this channel is not intended for viewing by children. Age 14+ is recommended.
