Today we will walk you through a complete guide of hot melt gun and the different glue stick sizes that they use. We'll be looking at a full range of hot melt tools, from craft glue guns all the way up to heavy-duty bulk applicators.

When we talk about how many watts a hot melt glue gun has, this is referring to how powerful the heater is on the gun. Craft guns are typically 20-100 watts where performance applicators range from 200 to 1000 watts. More wattage allows for higher volume dispensing, more even temperature with every trigger pull, and the ability to dispense industrial hot melt formulations with higher melting temperatures.

Let's start with a typical craft-type glue gun that you would purchase from a hobby or hardware store. These guns typically use 5/16" glue sticks are limited to lower performance formulas that do not offer much strength and the glue guns have low volume output. These are good for light craft applications but not much else.

Moving to a 200-watt light industrial gun, like the Infinity Bond Mojo, is a major upgrade from your craft store fodder. These glue guns are still lightweight but offer far more power.

Next up is a 200-watt glue gun for use with 1/2" sticks that offers a more durable, industrial design. Again, there are many formulations available when using 1/2" sticks with these type of guns, like the Infinity Bond Scout, and they are perfect for more industrial applications like woodworking or product assembly.

The Final category of glue gun that uses 1/2" hot melt sticks are guns with adjustable temperature control. These guns allow users to fine-tune temperature right from the gun and will handle higher volume applications. The Infinity Bond Ranger PRO 330 watt glue gun is a great example of an industrial applicator with variable temperature control.

Next up are hot melt applicators that use 5/8" glue sticks. This larger diameter stick size is great for even higher volume dispensing. Using 5/8" hot melt sticks also means users have to change out the glue sticks less often. These guns tend to be very high wattage but are also a little heavier and bulkier than their 1/2" counterparts. The Infinity Bond BRUTE is a great example of a 500-watt hot melt glue gun that utilizes this 5/8" stick size.

For very high volume applications or applications where user fatigue is a concern, pneumatic glue guns provide a great solution. Pneumatic glue guns hook up to an air compressor to allow for effortless dispensing. Stick sizes for these pneumatic applicators include 1 inch by 3 inches or 1 3/4" hot melt slugs. The downside to these applicators is that they are even heavier and bulkier than 5/8" glue guns so be sure people using the gun can handle the additional weight. Pneumatic applicators typically have 500 to 1000 watt heaters.

We hope this video has helped shine a light on all of the available hot melt glue guns and stick sizes on the market today.
