Is Salem's Lot actually that bad?

Today Rocky discusses the recent remake of Salem's Lot. This is an adaptation of the book from Stephen King, and is the second film adaptation overall of the book. It is very much a standard vampire movie, with spooky familiars and weird mindbending brainwashing powers. The movie seems to be getting a lot of hate online, which I just hard disagree with. The story could be a bit more intriguing, but it's use of the time period, characters, tension, the top tier acting, and the fun overall bring the movei up to a solid score in my book.
