Málaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol and one of the main cities in Spain, with an impressive history and an even more interesting present. Its old town, together with its lively port, has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site and Asset of Cultural Interest.

Málaga's tourist offer is vast. Its sixteen beaches and numerous leisure opportunities are joined by an attractive monumental heritage and a network of first-rate museums. The city of Picasso is today a cultural center of reference in Europe.

The Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro Castle are the main heritage of Málaga's Arab past. These fortresses, built between the 11th and 14th centuries, represent one of the best-preserved examples of defensive architecture from the period in Spain. From the castle, which dominates the top of the mount of the same name, you get fabulous views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea.

At the foot of both fortifications is the Roman Theater. Erected in the times of the Emperor Augustus, it is enabled to host shows in a unique environment. It also has an innovative interpretation center to learn about the life and customs of Roman Hispania.

Nearby is the Catedral de Málaga or la Encarnación. Designed by Diego de Siloé, great masters of the Andalusian Renaissance also participated in its construction, such as Andrés de Vandelvira, Hernán Ruiz II and Diego de Vergara. Among the jewels of art that the temple contains, the carvings of the choir, the work of Pedro de Mena, stand out.

Other examples of religious architecture are the churches of the Holy Martyrs and the Cristo de la Salud, the Episcopal Palace and the Gothic-flamboyant façade of the Sagrario church. The Basilica of the Virgen de la Victoria, patron saint of Malaga, with its Rococo dome, is also worth a visit.

The most emblematic street of the city culminates in the Plaza de la Constitución, presided over by the Fountain of Genoa in the Renaissance style. From here you can admire the picturesque Pasaje de Chinitas, the Casa del Consulado and the Ateneo de Málaga, the old school where Picasso began to draw.
