TURN A [ GNOME ] ON A WOOD LATHE – Wood turning a Christmas Gnome!

Since holidays are days away, I decided to turn a Gnome on my wood lathe.

In this demo, I’m Wood turning a Christmas gnome, or an elf if you want to call it that, and it was an incredibly fun project!
In fact, I ended up turning several wooden gnomes after this and once you get the hang of it, you’ll learn how to make them in just several minutes!

Most of the turning could be done quickly using the continental gouge to a greater extent. But since I’m yet to master the skew chisel I decided to use it as much as I could. I figured that if you are going to learn wood turning you might as well create something (somewhat) useful while you practice!

Turned out (pun intended) that it was very educational to use the skew on a shape that varies in thickness like the hat of my Christmas gnome.
Beads are also very humbling to make så added one of those as well.
