Here's a video showing hand assembly of surface mount parts using low-temperature solder paste and an electric skillet to reflow. Skip to 57 seconds in if you're in a hurry to see the fun part where passive components self-align due to surface tension as the metal in the paste liquefies.

I've successfully used this technique in the past to do parts where all of the pads are hidden under the package, such as accelerometers and low count BGAs. It takes either good luck or great skill to get just enough paste on those to get good contacts without bridging.

I consider my assembly skills to be weak, so I'd suggest watching this more for fun than education. This skillet method isn't a technique I'd suggest for anything other than hobby work or early-in house prototyping for simple boards that can't be done with an iron.

The PCB is one I designed in Eagle as hobby work for the Fortnite Chest project. I had it fabbed at OshPark for about $12 for 3 copies. The solder paste is CHIPQUIK SMDLTLFP which is about $15 for a syringe at Digikey.
