Resident Evil fans are spiraling after producer Masato Kumazawa addressed rumors about Leon S. Kennedy’s return in Resident Evil Requiem. According to Kumazawa, recent “leaks” showing Leon — including the viral eye-patch image — are “fake news.”
Speaking with stevivor, he urged fans not to trust AI-generated images or unofficial sources:
“Unless it’s officially released from Capcom, we can’t give you any confirmation.”
“Now is the time when AI [can be used to make] videos and photos, we don’t know what’s right or what’s wrong.”
But Kumazawa notably did not shut the door on Leon completely. Instead, he teased players by saying they’re free to “believe what they want to believe.”
That ambiguity has only fueled speculation. Leon has dominated discussions around Requiem, the ninth mainline Resident Evil entry returning players to Raccoon City. Many believe his long-running importance makes a cameo — or more — entirely plausible, especially given Capcom’s love for dramatic reveals.
And after Capcom misdirected fans at Summer Game Fest 2025 before revealing Requiem in a final surprise tease, players are convinced the studio may be hiding something big.
