I meet a mum I had not seen for over a decade and she was so inspiring. Listening to her talk about how she was trying to support her transgender child was so emotional and thought provoking.

Parenting can be a tricky role, none of us get a manual, we have to figure it out as we go along. Supporting a transgender or non-binary child can add a new layer of complexity in an already increasingly difficult task.

The things this parent had struggled through left me lost in thought about how much we can support each other in creating an inclusive world.

The love and hope for the future of their child echoed in every statement.

We have such power as parents and a community to create a safe space were we can all be comfortable to learn and grow, about ourselves, about each other. Where we can value every part of who we are. Where we learn to accept differences are simply the thing which unite us. We are all different and in that we are all the same.

Or we have the power to create a world where we feel the need to hide parts of ourselves or to rush forward to a conclusion in the hopes if we get there quickly it will somehow ease the pain of getting there. A world where it is better to live a lie everyday than say or be who we are through fear of rejection, abuse or shame.

I know the world I would rather live in.
