Kemuning Villa is a modern tropical residence designed on the hillside contours of Kemuning, Karanganyar, Central Java. This three-level villa responds sensitively to its step site by adopting a stepped massing strategy that minimizes earthwork while maximizing views, privacy, and thermal comfort. The architectural concept emphasizes a spatial hierarchy from public to private zones, articulated through interlocking volumes and vertical circulation.
The design integrates passive environmental strategies, including optimal orientation, cross-ventilation, thermal zoning, and deep shading elements, making the villa climatically responsive. Material selection reflects both local character and functional performance – with exposed brick, timber fins, natural stone, and expansive glass composing a warm, tactile palette.
Kemuning Villa stands as a prototype for contextual hillside living, where architecture engages in a meaningful dialogue with its natural surroundings. The project embodies HARO Studio’s philosophy of designing spaces that are experiential, rooted in place, and environmentally considerate.
