The He-Man movie looks good, but I think it’s probably going to flop anyway.
The Masters of the Universe trailer just dropped, and many people are starting to talk about it. My first impression is that this movie is 20 years too late.
Lots of people are latching onto the he/him pronouns gag and the race swapping for Man-at-Arms, like those are going to be box office indicators. But I don’t think that will be a concern at all.
No, there's a lot of baggage here. Because this movie has been in development hell for nearly 20 years. It costs somewhere between $170 and $200 million dollars to make. And it's releasing into an era where people are pickier than ever about what films they go see in theaters. And the franchise it's based on? Most people under 30 have no idea what He-Man even is.
