OpenTelemetry and APM in Elasticsearch 8.16 by Greg Kalapos, Elastic

The 8.16 release brought substantial improvements to OpenTelemetry (OTel) support for APM use cases. We collaborated with the community to enhance the Elasticsearch exporter within the OTel Collector. Additionally, Elasticsearch now supports new OTel-native data streams, which are fully integrated with Kibana.

With this setup, you can point OTel SDKs to an OTel Collector, which can export directly into Elasticsearch, and all the APM features in Kibana will happily visualize this data for you. In this talk, we’ll explore the benefits of this setup and demonstrate how to work with OTel-native data for APM use cases in the 8.16 release.
