Pilentum would like to show you some famous diesel locomotives of the German railway history. Therefore, we have to visit a very old model railroad exhibit built in O gauge or 1/45 scale in Germany. On this railroad layout any toy train is made by hand. The first locomotive in this video is the famous DRG Class V 140. It was the first diesel locomotive with a hydraulic power transmission diesel engine, transmitting more than 1,000 kW of power. The locomotive was developed in the 1920’s and has been taken regularly on rail transport service since the 1930’s. After that loco, there is a very short video record of a battery electric multiple train used on the Prussian railway lines. It is the Prussian Class AT 3 Wittfeld battery locomotive. Thereupon, we will see the very famous DB Class V 200. It was the first diesel-hydraulic express locomotive of the German Federal Railroad. The DB Class V 200 hauled express trains on all main lines in the 1960’s. Because of the electrification of many railway lines the V 200 locomotives were used increasingly for commuter trains and freight trains. They were taken out of service in the late 1980’s. While many model train manufacturers produce as well the DRG Class V 140 locomotive as the DB Class V 200 locomotive, for example made by Hornby, Marklin, Roco, Fleischmann, etc., it is very difficult to find a scale model of the Prussian battery electric locomotive.
