Automation of FHIR - SMART Guideline Generation | Clinical Guideline Digitization

It was a super exiting opportunity to talk to an enthusiastic audience at the Health Innovation Community (HIC 2024) organized by Australian Institute Digital Health about PyFHIR, an open source tool created to automate the generation of WHO SMART guidelines.

WHO SMART guidelines allows rapid dissemination of clinical guidelines from WHO to digital health systems. The current SMART guidelines are based on WHO FHIR standard, and adaptation of SMART guidelines is a challenge due to creation of the machine readable guideline (L3).

PyFHIR aims to automate the generation of the machine readable guidelines (L3) by converting the digital adaptation kit to FHIR resources, CQL, and generating a FHIR implementation guideline.
