Multiple people in the FGC have said to me that they’re surprised by how I’ll just @ advanced and/or big-name players for advice or sets, but this is exactly why you shouldn’t be afraid to reach out. A lot of those pros want to grow the scene, want to help you.

The absolute worst response I’ve gotten to a cold call tweet or a “GGs, you slaughtered me, I’d love to get your advice sometime if you’re down” DM is silence. Maybe they’ve complained to a group chat or something behind the scenes, but nobody’s been rude to me.

I haven’t gotten around to running sets with all those connections yet (Shine, I’m sorry!! I need your wisdom!) but having them is a huge asset towards getting stronger, and you will not make them if you’re too afraid to ask. There’s no shame in asking to learn. Ask!!!

And El Chakotay in particular recently put out a public offer (via Twitter) to run sets with and help out anyone who asks, so get out there and learn from a Legend Lily. What’s the worst thing that can happen? You get double perfected on stream? I did. Twice. And I still had fun and learned.

(And as an aside, while being forced back into urgent job searching SUCKS, being able to run sets at 5 PM sharp on a Tuesday was pretty nice, so we take those.)
