M-1956 equipment manufactured in Australia to a modified pattern for use by both Australian and New Zealand troops during the Vietnam War. With some further minor modifications the equipment saw use until 1988 when it began to be replaced by a more heavily modified set of equipment. Its influence could still be seen in early Auscam equipment of the 1990s and into the 2000s. The water bottle carriers, entrenching tool carrier and even the associated pack being easily recognisable as copies of or evolutions from the M-1956 components but made in the new Auscam material.
