Tulsi or the holy Basil plant holds a special place in our hearts and homes. There are various types of Tulsi plants available in India and many parts of the world.

In the ancient Ayurvedic texts, we can see that there are four types of Tulsi.

Krishna Tulsi

Ram Tulsi

Van Tulsi

Kapoor Tulsi

In this video, we’ll know about the strongest variant of all these Tulsi plants – Krishna Tulsi.

The scientific name of Krishna Tulsi is Ocimum Tenuiflorum. It is known as ‘Shyama Tulsi’, based on the colour of Shyama or Krishna, the adorable God. It is also called as the Purple-leaved Tulsi’ and it is famous for its peppery, crisp taste. It comprises purple colored leaves and dark stems. Although it is grown in many regions in India, it is relatively more difficult to find than the green varietals.

Compared to the other species of Tulsi, Krishna Tulsi takes a longer time to grow. It is believed that this is the reason for its spicy and crispier flavour. The leaves are less bitter as compared to other types.

Growing Krishna Tulsi

Krishna Tulsi seeds germinate after a while, so be patient once you sow them!

The seeds are mainly sown in the spring season.

They are watered from time to time and germinated in one to two weeks.

Tulsi prefers rich soil for its growth.

It requires full sunlight.

It is mainly grown in the temperate climate.

Medicinal Benefits of Krishna Tulsi

Purple leaf Tulsi is known to be beneficial to treat throat infections, respiratory system, nasal lesions, earache and skin diseases. Tulsi is consumed as Herbal Tea.

Tulsi oil is also used as the ear drop.

Tulsi helps in curing Malaria.

It si very effective against indigestion, headache, hysteria, insomnia and cholera.

The fresh leaves of Tulsi are taken by the million of people every day.

Tulsi has got a great medicinal value. For over the centuries Tulsi (the queen of herbs) has been known for its remarkable healing properties.

Other uses

Many people wear Tulsi beads, which is said to have certain physical and medicinal properties. Its wood is considered as the most powerful that helps in protecting one from the negative influences. One can also buy several handicraft jewellery items made of Tulsi wood.
