Dominating the view along the riverside is the iconic *Knaresborough Viaduct**. This Grade II listed railway bridge is a spectacular example of Victorian engineering, with its four large arches spanning the River Nidd. Its design, featuring castellated walls and piers, was intentionally made to complement the nearby medieval castle. Interestingly, the viaduct standing today is a replacement for an earlier one that collapsed during construction in 1848, with the new, sturdier version opening in 1851. It continues to be an active part of the Harrogate railway line, carrying trains over the water and creating a truly memorable image. 🚂
