Swimbait Review: BGC Gill Wake

The Gill wake by Big Game Customs is a 3 PC resin floating wake bait, featuring a short circuit-board lip and hard plastic tail. The bait is approx 6" and 2.5 oz.

On the slow retrieve, the Gill Wake shows a subtle and quite kick and wake, with a natural and fluid motion. The bait has zero desire to dive at any speed, which I look for in a true wake bait. The bait will also rock back and forth, displaying its side profile. Please keep in mind that this is an older video I've had for a while, so I did not get a crawling speed retrieve on video :(

Increasing to a medium speed accentuates the swim, with a high frequency head hunt along with the bait rocking hard side to side at about 45 degrees. The bait also produces that subtle resin clicking noise youd expect, and that V wake gets more defined.

In my opinion, the BGC Gill Wake shines as you get faster and faster, and you can absolutely burn the bait to your hearts
content. The burn is certainly the most aggressive type action, with a strong wake, lots of noise, increased splash, and a bit of thump as well. Interestingly, the bait loses its propensity to rock, and stays very upright and stable on the burn. It will not dive at all, if you're looking for a surface style bait to burn, this one will be for you!

I'd also encourage you to try the burn and pause, with a sharp pause causing the bait to dart to one side before picking right back up as soon as you start the retrieve again. The bait stops hard and crisp, and throwing some line at it will encourage the dart.

I threw the Gill wake on a Donyns 795, Tranx 300, and 20 lb copoly. Mono or Braid would certainly be fine choices as well!
