My name is Monica Brown, and I’m honored to be here tonight as a candidate for the Granbury ISD School Board.
I’m running because, like many of you, I care deeply about the direction of our schools, the integrity of our tax dollars, and—most importantly—our children’s future.
Over the past few years, this community has made its voice clear. We’ve seen three bond proposals defeated by voters.
And just as important as what we spend is how transparent we are. I will push to ensure that all MOUs, contracts, and informal agreements are documented and published on the district’s website—so there are no more backroom decisions. Taxpayers deserve to know what’s being signed on their behalf.
Fiscal responsibility doesn’t stop there. I also believe the school board has a duty to hold the Appraisal District Board accountable. When their budget isn’t responsible, I will vote no. The appraisal process must serve the public—not overwhelm taxpayers.
And going forward, I will support a “no new revenue” tax rate. Families in this community are tired of seeing their property taxes go up, year after year, while trust in local government goes down. I’ll need YOUR HELP ensuring the other board members get in line with community desires.
This campaign is not just about stopping what’s wrong—it’s about building what’s right.
Right now, only one in three GISD graduates is considered college-ready. And while we can celebrate graduation rates, we must do better when it comes to real readiness.
That’s why I’ll focus on the fundamentals:
Strengthening reading and math skills starting in the earliest grades.
Equipping students to think critically, communicate clearly, and compete with confidence.
Restoring historical content and inspirational stories of Americans from all walks of life to our libraries—because children deserve to know the truth about our history and the greatness of our nation.
I want to tap into one of our greatest underused resources: our own community. We have a strong base of parents and an even stronger base of retirees and veterans who are ready to serve. If elected, I will work to launch a background-checked, campus-based volunteer program to support students—especially in reading and math.
Imagine a Tuesday and Thursday volunteer model—where every campus is filled with vetted, caring adults sharing life experience, mentoring students, and helping build literacy and confidence. That’s not a line item in a budget—it’s the heart of Granbury stepping into our schools.
I am ready to get in sync with national and state leaders who stand firmly against DEI practices in our schools.
I support merit-based practices and oppose top-down DEI mandates. We live in a diverse and experienced local community—between parents, retirees, and veterans—we can support students naturally, through life stories, mentorship, and everyday presence in classrooms. We don’t need government directives, Communities in Schools, United Way associations with their DEI dogma - when we have neighbors who are ready to teach, guide, and inspire.
I believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and respected. We can protect parental rights, maintain age-appropriate standards, and still uphold dignity in every classroom.
And finally, I bring a leadership style rooted in service, visibility, and accountability. I’ll be in schools, in meetings, and across the district—listening to you, learning from you, and working with you to build a stronger GISD.
