This is a guided annual reflection and intention-setting process designed to help you close one year cleanly and step into the next with clarity, focus, and self-trust.
In this video, I walk you through a 60–90 minute personal ritual I use every year to sharpen my thinking, reclaim my energy, and align my life across work, health, relationships, money, and creative pursuits. This is not traditional goal setting. It’s not about forcing outcomes or stacking unrealistic resolutions. It’s about honest reflection, pattern recognition, and deliberate release so you can move forward without dragging last year’s baggage into the next one.
The process begins with a structured review of the year you just lived. You’ll look at what actually worked, where your time and energy produced real returns, which relationships supported your growth, and which environments helped you feel most focused and alive. This part is about competence and morale. Most people skip it, and as a result, they underestimate themselves and overcorrect the following year.
From there, we move into the harder but more important work. You’ll identify the behaviors, habits, and beliefs that quietly held you back. This is done with compassion, not self-attack. Shame doesn’t create change, but clarity does. You’ll name what no longer fits who you are becoming and decide what you are finally willing to let go of completely.
The core of the practice is writing an Annual Letter to Self. This letter follows a specific five-part sequence that creates psychological closure and forward momentum. You anchor yourself in the present moment. You acknowledge what you’re proud of. You name what needs improvement without minimizing it. You then look ahead from one year in the future and describe what has already happened, personally and professionally, for you to feel satisfied with your progress. Finally, you consciously release the year and close the loop so you’re not unconsciously repeating it.
I share examples, prompts, and framing throughout the video so you can pause, write, and reflect at your own pace. You’ll want a pen and paper for this. This is your life, and it deserves your full attention.
This practice is inspired by timeless principles, including the idea that success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. It’s not about perfection. It’s about alignment. It’s about removing what no longer belongs so what’s essential can take shape.
If you’re feeling scattered, overextended, or unsure how to orient yourself for the year ahead, this process will help you regain your footing. If you had wins but didn’t take time to register them, this will restore your sense of capability. If you’re ready to stop repeating patterns that drain you, this will give you a clean break.
Take this seriously. Take your time. Pause the video when prompted. Answer honestly. And give yourself permission to complete the year you just lived so you can fully step into the next one.
