Friends, it will take many births to understand Jain initiation, but in short, when a person takes Jain initiation, he has to follow five Mahavartas throughout his life.
Number one non-violence i.e. complete adherence to non-violence in mind, words and body, i.e. renunciation of violence.
The number two truth is to tell the truth throughout life, that is, not to lie.
Number Three Choice Never Steal
Number four is celibacy, i.e. not having relations with people of opposite gender, relationship is a very distant thing, even touch is not allowed.
Number Five Aparigraha - Do not own anything, do not even touch money, do not own house, no bungalow, do not own anything. These principles may sound very easy and simple. But when these principles are followed then the reality becomes known.
For example, no use of electricity throughout the day. Mobile fan, AC cooler is a very distant thing, not even a cell-operated watch. Those who have not known Jainism closely, those who are not familiar with Jainism, this question must be arising in their mind that 'Father, oh father is like this'. How can one live in the situation? Surely, either these people taking initiation are mad or they are being induced to take initiation by luring them.
Many people might be thinking it is a case of brain washing. Otherwise an educated person would never get involved in such things. Right, the surprising thing is that all these people taking initiation are illiterate, it is not so but they are also CAM, BA, Engineers, Doctors. Recently we learned a lot about sister Namrata. Even though he had studied in America, he still took initiation.
These people taking initiation are poor, hungry and thirsty. Didn't achieve anything in life so took initiation. It is not so because even the owners of crores of rupees have left everything and taken initiation and are taking it. Like Bhanwar Bhai Doshi, these people who take initiation are orphans, useless, have no status, it is not so because handsome people, people with huge families, big businessmen with big jobs have also taken initiation.
Now the question might be arising that when everything was there then why did they adopt this path? Why should we deliberately reject a life of worldly pleasures and embrace a life of sorrow?
