Two Suspected ULFA Cadres Arrested in Lohit District for Extortion

On July 3, 2024, a shopkeeper in Wakro, Arunachal Pradesh, reported three armed men demanding a ransom of Rs. 15 lakhs on May 31, 2024. The suspects called again on July 3 to reiterate their demands, leading to the registration of an FIR at Wakro PS under various sections of the BNS Act and Arms Act.

In a joint operation on July 5, police from Wakro and Chongkham, along with the Assam Rifles, arrested two extortionists, Chanchal Moran and Nirmal Moran, in Lohit District. The duo, hailing from Tinsukia District, Assam, were caught while attempting to escape after extorting an advance sum of Rs. 95,500 from the victim.
