Since I heavily disagreed with the choices at the Game Awards, I thought I'd end the year with my personal pick for GOTY!

I played a lot of fantastic games this year. From classics like Final Fantasy 7 to the absolute joy that is Katana ZERO. But my personal game of the year, has to be Death’s Door.
A fantastic indie title by Acid Nerve, which actually doesn’t present anything new mechanically, but instead gives a beautiful experience, reminiscent of something like Hyper light drifter, with gameplay polished to near perfection. The art style of the world is breathtaking and filled to the brim with secrets to explorer. All accompanied by one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, fitting perfectly to the story of a crow acting as a reaper on the hunt for souls as part of his standard 9-to-5 office job.
The narrative is rather grim, but somehow manages to balance out with some light-hearted moments that had me literally chuckling to myself from time to time. The combat is simplistic, but tight as all hell, playing perfectly into the majestic boss fights. And while the difficulty level may seem slightly above average, the combat is easy to master, and the challenge can be overcome and should be tried by everyone.
