If you’ve ever wondered why horses help us the way they do, here are seven reasons (and why we created the Caring for Cowboys and Cowgirls Foundation™).

1. Horses are prey animals, and they survive by staying present in the moment. They're phenomenal at teaching us to be more mindful and grounded at all times.
2. Horses are herd animals. They survive by having connection with others.
3. Horses communicate primarily nonverbally. They help us be more aware of how we communicate through our body language.
4. Horses teach us how to set boundaries. If we don't set any, we might find ourselves in an unsafe situation with a horse.
5. Horses help us reduce anxiety. Simply standing near a horse can slow our breathing, ease anxious thoughts, and even sync our heart rates.
6. Horses offer healing where humans sometimes can’t. When people have been the source of pain, horses become a safe place to reconnect, rebuild trust, and feel seen.
7. Horses help everyone. Horses don’t care who you are, what you’ve been through, or what labels the world has put on you.
