PPDT Practice for SSB Interview | PPDT (Picture Perception and Discussion Test) | SSB Psychology Test


PPDT (Picture Perception and Discussion Test) is a key part of the SSB (Services Selection Board) screening process for candidates applying for the Indian Armed Forces. It is conducted during Day 1 of the SSB selection process as part of the Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) and PPDT assessment.

PPDT Process:
Picture Perception:

A blurred or hazy picture is shown to candidates for 30 seconds.
Candidates have to observe the scene carefully and write a story based on the image in the next 4 minutes.
Story Writing:

Candidates must write a short story including:
Characters (age, gender, mood)
Past (what led to the situation in the picture)
Present (what is happening in the scene)
Future (logical conclusion of the story)
Discussion:

Candidates are divided into groups of 10-15 and must narrate their story confidently within 1 minute.
A group discussion (GD) follows, where candidates must collaborate and agree on a common story.
The assessors observe communication skills, leadership qualities, confidence, and logical thinking.
Tips to Perform Well in PPDT:
✅ Observe the Picture Clearly – Identify characters and the situation.
✅ Write a Positive and Logical Story – Show problem-solving skills.
✅ Be Concise and Clear – Avoid unnecessary details.
✅ Narrate with Confidence – Maintain eye contact, speak fluently.
✅ Participate Actively in the Discussion – Lead the discussion if needed but avoid being aggressive.
