Rinky Adduri asks: Sir, does a change of place or environment lead to hair loss and hair fall? If it happens, I want to know if we can regrow the lost hair later. Please explain.

While responding to the query by Rinky Adduri, Dr John Watts said that there is some truth behind the change of place or environment or water due to holiday travel or otherwise getting linked to hair loss and hair fall. However, such changes are temporary.

“Once you return to favourable conditions, the hair regrowth would resume normally,” said Dr John Watts.

If, however, hair regrowth does not resume and hair loss continues as before even after returning to favourable conditions, Dr John Watts said that patients should consult a dermatologist.

“They need to take out a blood test to find out vitamin deficiency. Apart from vitamin deficiency, proper sleep, nutrition and proper water intake have to be given importance,” advised Dr John Watts.

Chandni Arikathota asks: Sir, is it true that excessive use of Reetha Powder or Kunkudukai powder can make our hair dry? Please explain.

While responding to the query by Chandni Arikathota, Dr John Watts said that there is a strong possibility that too much use of Reetha Powder or Kunkudukai powder can have side effects on the hair.

Though natural shampoo using Reetha Powder or Kunkudukai powder is always better than chemical shampoos, one needs to be cautious as overuse can lead to frizzy hair. “One's hair can become dry and it may even lead to split ends,” warned Dr John Watts.

In order to counter such a scenario and minimise damage to the hair, Dr John Watts said that after shampooing with Reetha powder-based shampoo, one needs to use hair conditioner and keep it on the scalp for 1 minute to one-and-a-half-minute before rinsing the scalp with water.
