As soon as I finished "swimmingbird" back in May, I immediately started working on a new project which would eventually become "firebird". I had an idea for a follow up album which would explore different, more "personal" themes than "swimmingbird" did, which focused on more of a general view.

I shelved this project a few times for multiple reasons. First, I got stuck a few times trying to take my music a bit to the next level by pushing myself to rely a bit less on loops and more on song structure. This isn't a lofi album like "swimmingbird" (where I could hide poor song structure) but these songs also aren't fully realized pieces of music. More like little grasps of emotion in beat form. This project has less samples than my last project, and I worked with MIDI loops for the first time which was a great learning experience!

Secondly, I ran out of steam. Multiple times. I doubted myself and the sound I was creating. To be completely honest, even to this moment right now I am feeling uneasy thinking about other people listening to this. I know I nailed the tone I was going for (which shows improvement on my end) but is this really music? I don't know. Self doubt can be crippling.

Thirdly, multiple project files corrupted as I was finishing up the production stages and I lost some work. I was able to find a way around it and recover most of what I had lost, but by then a lot of my momentum had been lost. A couple songs (passione in particular) have some questionable mixing/EQing because I had too many limitations to work with in the mixing & mastering process.

All in all, I hope you enjoy "firebird". Already working on ideas for the next project which is going to be wildly, dangerously different from anything I've attempted in the past.
