The American Tobacco Trail is a 22 mile long off road trail that runs from Durham NC at the Northern end to near Apex at the southern end, The 15 miles from the northern end in Durham to New Hope Church Rd. are paved. The final 7 miles from there to the southern parking area at New Hill Olive Chapel Road is cinder and hard packed sand. This video begins at the southern parking lot and travels roughly 15 miles north before turning at the bridge over I-40 in Durham. The Trail is relatively flat and very smooth. It appears to be heavily used by cyclists and pedestrians. There are several small tunnels along the way, as well as, scenic wooded areas, creeks and low lying swamps. This Rails to Trails project is well done and worth a ride if you're in the area.
