Webinar - Enhancing Proficiency Level: A Road MUST Travel

English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) would like to invite everyone to join our webinar entitled “Enhancing Proficiency Level: A Road MUST Travel”. We aim to highlight the Pro-ELT Enhance Proficiency programme, which is specifically designed to assist English language teachers to achieve a minimum CEFR C1. A representative of the facilitator and a course participant are invited to share their experiences facilitating and participating in the programme. It is hoped that with this sharing of information, more English language teachers would be eager to partake in the programme to further improve their language proficiency level for the benefit of their pupils and themselves. “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too” - Paulo Coelho.

The distinguished speakers are as follows:

1. Dr. Azleena binti Mohamad
Head of English Language Teaching Management Department at English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC), Ministry of Education. She has served ELTC since late 2019. Her professional and active involvement in the education field includes curriculum development and revision, material selection and adaptation, module building, teacher training (pre-service and in-service), assessment and research. She believes that every child deserves the best education a nation can provide and to do so, teachers need to be well-trained and equipped with the skills to perform their best.

2. Dr. Jane Cheok Mei Lick
Head of MUET Unit at Tun Fatimah Form Six College in Melaka. She started her career as an English language teacher in SMK Bukit Jalur, Negeri Sembilan for 5 years before moving on to become a lecturer at the Institute of Teacher Education in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka for 17 years. She has written papers and published articles in a few international journals.  Her special areas of interests are technology use in education and extensive reading.

3. Mr. Lenardo Gabriel anak Girang
A Universiti Putra Malaysia first Class Holder graduate possessing a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). He obtained his CEFR C1 after attending the Pro-ELT Enhance (Proficient) course at ELTC in August 2022. He is a voracious reader of multiple disciplines, who strongly believes that education is key for a progressive outwards community.

4. Dr. Zubaidah Bibi binti Mobarak Ali (moderator)
An Academic Lecturer at English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC), Ministry of Education Malaysia. She has taught the English Language in both primary and secondary schools for 20 years. She was awarded the title of Master Teacher for English Language/Guru Cemerlang Bahasa Inggeris in 2008. In 2014, she was appointed to the Seremban District Education Office as the English Language School Improvement Specialist Coach Plus (SISC+). Instructional coaching and mentoring, as well as 21st-century teaching and learning, are two of her research interests. She has a strong desire to share her wisdom and assist educators in being more than just "effective" in the classroom.
