When designing an e bike for seniors there are many elements to consider. The motor size, battery size and the riding position are all important specs to consider. But the number one most important feature on an e bike for seniors is the step over height of the frame. At sixthreezero we've done hundreds of test rides with senior riders over the age of 55. We've noticed that a large percentage of those senior electric bicycle riders have some amount of decreased mobility either in their hips, knees or ankles. This decreased mobility in these areas leads to difficulty in step overing the frame to mount their electric bicycle. With a low step over height on their e bike it is much easier and safer for seniors to mount and dismount their e bike. We've seen countless times riders fall when either mounting or coming to a stop in preparation to dismount. Many times it is because riders have to swing their legs around the bike to get on. For some senior riders this can be difficult and makes the process of riding an electric bike very stressful. By using a low step over e bike, riders mount and dismount safely and easily. This eliminates the stress before and after rides and it won't be unnecessary strain on the riders joints. The low step through e bike is really the great equalizer and will keep many seniors riding electric bikes into the later years of their life.
