It's been a big year for the culture sector.
Korean movies, dramas and artists garnered greater global attention than ever before.
Kim Bo-kyoung lists the hottest topics in the cultural sector.

K-pop, K-dramas and K-movies have been leading South Korea's incredible expansion in the cultural sector in 2021. Here are three of the highlights."

It's no exaggeration to say BTS have been dominating the global music charts this year.
Picked as 'Record of the Year' by Variety magazine,... BTS' second English-language single "Butter" topped the Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart for 10 weeks.
Their songs "Permission to Dance" and "My Universe" have also topped the same chart.
That popularity led BTS to win "Artist of the Year" at the American Music Awards and get nominated for Best Pop Duo and Group Performance at the Grammy Awards.

"We had countless shows and awards but the recent Artist of The Year at the AMAs and the second Grammy nomination was truly something and it really did something for us."

They finished off a spectacular year with in-person concerts at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles their first live stadium gigs in two years.

Even just by hearing these words,... many people would think right away of "Squid game" the Korean original drama series that has become the biggest non-English language show in the world.
The drama started a huge craze around the whole planet making items from the show like the honeycomb candy 'dalgona' popular,... as over 142-million households watched it in the first month since its release.

"We wanted it to be this popular, but we didn't know that it would actually be this popular. So, we're just really surprised."

Winning the category for breakthrough series of over 40 minutes at the Gotham Independent Film Awards,... it is now on its way to win awards at next year's Critics' Choice Awards,... and the Golden Globes.

The movie "Minari", directed by Korean-American filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, tells the story of a Korean immigrant family that moves to rural Arkansas in the 1980s in search of the American dream.
Through the movie, veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung made a huge impression worldwide.
She became the first Korean actor to win an Oscar for best supporting actress,... along with a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA.
TIME magazine even named her one of the 100 most influential people of 2021.
South Korean artists, dramas and films have seen huge success this year,... and amid the boom in popularity that South Korean content is enjoying,... people are eagerly anticipating what could come next in 2022.
