Описание к видео ICN Congress 2019 - 28 June 2019 - Main Session 2

Disaster Nursing: Why do competencies matter anyway?
Prof. Kristine Gebbie (Australia)

Many nurses (and others) find discussions of competencies irrelevant, yet clearly stated competencies can direct a profession, or a workplace or an individual professional along a developmental pathway to excellent performance. The current review of the ICN nursing competencies in disasters will serve such a purpose, and comes at a critical time for our role in the world.

Non-Communicable Disease Prevention
Mrs. Christine Hancock (United Kingdom)

Non-Communicable (chronic) Diseases (NCDs) including cardiovascular disease, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, are the leading causes of death and morbidity globally.
The main drivers across all four NCDs are shared and include tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and the harmful use of alcohol; risk factors that are preventable and for which there are clear policy and clinical practice solutions. The world’s nurses have the opportunity to lead this work and make a great difference to the burden of disease and premature death. Without advances in NCD prevention and control, countries will struggle to achieve Universal Health Coverage, and families will be pushed further into cycles of poverty, with the impact falling hardest on those least able to afford it. Nurses with the right knowledge and confidence will be able to make significant impact on this serious epidemic.

Tobacco Control, Health Promotion and Prevention Strategies
Prof. Sophia Chan (Hong Kong, China)

To safeguard the health of the public, it is the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s policy to discourage smoking, contain the proliferation of tobacco use and minimise the impact of passive smoking on the public. Our multi-pronged approach comprises legislation, enforcement, publicity, education, smoking cessation services and taxation. With the concerted efforts by the Government and other stakeholders over the years, smoking prevalence among persons aged 15 and above has significantly dropped from over 20% in the 1980s to 10% at present. Under the “Towards 2025: Strategy and Action Plan to Prevent and Control Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Hong Kong”, the Government has proposed a list of actions that Hong Kong will pursue to achieve nine NCD targets as we move towards 2025. Professor Chan’s presentation will cover the initiatives on anti-smoking and prevention and control of NCDs in Hong Kong.
